TELEHEALTH SERVICES

Due to the pandemic, SMSB-LLC is now offering only teletherapy sessions.

How does teletherapy work?

Teletherapy works very similarly to Skype or Facetime. SMSB-LLC uses a platform called Telehealth by SimplePractice. There’s an app you can download or you can access the platform through your computer as well. Telehealth by SimplePractice is HIPAA compliant to ensure that our sessions are safe, secure, private, and confidential!

PROS & CONS

Pros

Telehealth is incredibly convenient, as you can have a therapy session in the comfort of your own home and not need to beat traffic, and spend time commuting and looking for, and paying for parking.

There is also more flexibility by not having therapy only after work hours, as long as you are able to find a private space to ensure confidentiality.

Cons

The cons of teletherapy can be that the connection might be poor depending on your internet connection and there is an added need to ensure you have privacy within your home to conduct the teletherapy sessions.

Session Fees

The rates for telehealth are the same as in-person. While the practice is self-pay, SMSB-LLC can provide you with a receipt and it is up to you to submit them to your insurance, depending on your out of network benefits. Most, but not all insurance companies cover telehealth, so if you would like, please confirm that your insurance company covers telehealth prior to setting up your first appointment.

As a PSYPACT provider, Dr. Amendola is able to practice telehealth in 14 states (and more states are currently pending legislation). Since these are out of state for Virginia, self-pay is the only option, but if you would like to pursue out-of-network benefits, the same rules mentioned above apply.
